[SOLVED] Installing handbrake and avoiding flatpak bloatware

Post by flyingrhino »

Yet another great software distributed in bloatware flatpak.

If you use the software manager in LM you'll get the bloated flatpak version.
Instead you can follow the ubuntu ppa instructions here: https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.2.0/get- ... stall.html
and then install it from software manager - 10Mb total !

Copy/paste from above:

Code: Select all

Ubuntu PPAs
The following instructions are for Ubuntu. They may also work on other deb-compatible distributions. For other Linux, please compile from the official source code.

From the command line, add the official releases PPA to your system.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases
sudo apt-get update

On December I installed Linux Mint 20 Xfce and both the simple Handbrake and the the Flathub version were available. It's installed on my system since then. Isn't now available?

Indeed. I'm running 19.3 Xfce and both are available here as well.
