Do you mean without using, say, a Firefox plugin? I use "Download YouTube Videos as MP4", but there are others.

I use FF add-on "Flash and Video Download" (catchy name, huh?)

Stand-alone cmd-line program "youtube-dl" works well.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!

If you have VLC installed, that will do it.

I use youtube-dl from the command line. It has the advantage that it will download an entire playlist. get_flash_videos, another command line tool, is also good.

I think that the best way is to use the Net Video Hunter plugin for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/a ... serprofile

It downloads not only youtube videos, but from many other sites.

HI tlcmd, and anyone else interested in this,

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

1. "YouTube DL" and YouTube DL GUI" are great programs for this. I prefer the GUI because it runs from the desktop and I have both installed. What is really nice about this is that if you want to download an entire "playlist" from somewhere on YouTube you can. Example: I wanted to learn more about "Gimp" photo editing, and there are a lot of really good video tutorials on YouTube, so, I went to "PhotoAdvanced", and copied their playlist url into "YouTube DL Gui", andit downloaded their entire playlist on Gimp, Then, I could view their really good videos off-line at my leisure, which by the way is faster than viewing online.

Multi-Platform youtube-dl GUI: YouTube dlG [Updated]
http://www.webupd8.org/2014/03/multi-pl ... utube.html

To install this using the PPA method, open a console terminal, type in, or copy & paste, each line below one by one:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install youtube-dlg

2. There are numerous really good browser add-ons for individual video downloading from YouTube, and "NetvideoHunter" is one of the best. If you are having a problem downloading a video on any site, this program can help do that. So +1 on NetVideoHunter. It puts a "blue" icon in your toolbar, when you have a web page up showing your video, just click that blue NVH icon in your toolbar, and a pop-up windows appears, click the video or videos, that you want and click "download".

There are also: "Easy YouTube Video Downloader Express", "1-click Video downloader", etc...

Hope this helps ...
