I'm unable to watch streaming video (youtube) and listen to music (banshee) at the same time.
This Is not really a problem, but is anyone else having the same problem?

I am having the same problem, sort of.

If I'm using Rhythmbox I can watch Youtube videos, but with no sound.

I can however get sound from Rhythmbox, VLC while playing a movie, and my Virtualbox XP install simultaneously.

Trying all the different combinations of apps that use sound output, I've found that flash video is definitely the culprit.

Once I watch a flash video in FF, neither Rhythmbox, VLC, or XP in Virtualbox will produce sound, unless I close or restart FF.

Same Problem in here, that's the one that really bothers me. Cannot play any streaming without loosing audio in the other apps, like Rhythmbox. Another Big problem, is compiz, is not working with the script from here and it says it's an application bug... Already posted in here. Someone do something about this.

I had the same problem using Exaile, Rhythmbox and Banshee.
I can watch the streaming video but with no sound, and the audio player doesn't work. Nothing happens when I press play button. I have to close one of them.

I haven't tried yet to play audio file and watch video using vlc or mplayer.

I'll try it tonight.

I tried to watch a streaming video and an avi file using vlc at the same time and the same thing happened.
I have to either close the page or the app.

Removing Pulse audio and running this command in a terminal

Code: Select all

sudo service pulseaudio stop; sudo killall -9 pulseaudio; sudo service alsa-utils restart
fixed the audio for me.

Then I ran

Code: Select all

alsamixer
in a terminal to adjust the volume levels.

I also had to reconfigure my XP Virtualbox install to use Alsa.

I now have simultaneous sound in everything.

Found the solution here.

Had the same problem
Install alsa plug-in [plugin-container] solved the problem (please clem include this in live dvd)
I had to look at mint 9 pulseaudio volume control and then come back to lmde to try to solve this. I was about not to try lmde anymore
I now have sound from amarok 1.4.10 and youtube at the same time
cannot remember the steps. google helps

if not exist create file /etc/firefox/firefoxrc and add a line
FIREFOX_DSP="padsp"

This wiki from ubuntu also helped me https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio
Why have sound from multiple sources at the same time
Well i listen web radio with headphones, while recording a movie with kaffeine and the familly is watching 'love actually' dvd (5th time), all with sound using the internal (motherboard) and the intenal (pci) sound cards

Sometimes, quitting firefox the process is not killed,so i have to doit manually
Install iceweasel, seems to run smoother, then go youtube etc

btw: is this problem universal? I'd guess so, right?
hope it'll be fixed soon - while I don't mind a lot of people might be put-off by that first-impression wise

http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/Giant ... fm?cam=PC4 is my acid test; I ran it live and there was no problem so I proceeded to install. But before going on line and investigating more streaming media, I installed AdBlock Plus and Better Privacy and I have found that I need to tie Better Privacy to the history elimination function of Firefox to get Better Privacy to actually clear stuff.

I have thus far not run into the problems you people are having; it has worked much better than Mint 9 which apparently used the official Ubuntu steaming media technique which always resulted in pops or clicks as the above link started.

hrm what soundcards do you guys use? Asus Xonar D1 here - disabling pulse didn't change anything. Still only audio from one source....

I fixed all problems by installing OSS4. the instructions in the link above to install OSS4 didnt work out but by using other tutorials around the net i got it working. Im now sitting off with no sound problems at all!!

Pulse can be a pain, you should be just fine without it on oss4. Imo oss4 is better, but that's just based on experience. If it works for you that's great.
