about this dist-upgrade thing

Can someone answer me if aptitude dist-upgrade needs to be run so the system would be fully upgraded, if it is then how often?

Personally, I would just use MintUpdate as normal and give dist-upgrade with apt a miss for now. The issue of how MintUpdate it will handle kernel upgrades etc will be addressed after the main Mint 10 release.

Unfortunately (or not) I already did dist-upgrade, so therefore have I done anything bad for system?

Generally no. Just be careful with it and note what it wants to remove. It's meant to be "smarter" than a simple upgrade, but it can go on a deletion spree if you're not careful.
