Please encourage me :D

Post by sisadness » Mon Apr 13, 2015 4:28 pm

Hi there. My name is Stefan, I am from Germany and I am using Linux Mint for 16 month now. The Terminal has become my best friend and I love MATE. I was always very satisfied with Mint 16 to 17.1 And I am couragous. I want to switch to LMDE but I don't really dare. I always thought about switching to Debian for the reason that I like the concept of free software and I think the "minty" part will take some complications away.

I've already checked the final release in the virtualbox. I can live without PPAs, I need Wine for some webradio stuff I do, everything else is available in the debian repos as i checked. The Idea, beeing independent from ubuntus decicions appeals to me. Can you encourage me to dare the change?

Greetings. And please: I am no native english speaker so please pardon spelling and grammar mistakes.

Stefan
I used Mint 17.1 and LMDE for a few weeks and found no limitations at all with LMDE so it became my default OS. I have now installed LMDE2 and it is running fine.
If you have sufficient disk space install LMDE2 on a separate partition and try it before you ditch Mint 17.1.
Good Luck
Michael

LMDE works well indeed, there are some minor differences with the Mate DE, though.

if you have some room on your HDD, then do try a dual_boot scenario. ..

Been thinking about trying LMDE myself, either in a virtual machine or as yet another bare metal install on my computer.

I like Cinnamon, but it's just my number 2. It doesn't feature package search via menue bar. Sounds stupid, but thats the point for me to prefer Mate. Still I switch sometimes, when I get bored ;)

I'm using Kwin with Mate, and all is right with the world :-)
