Mate, 64-bit. Not sure what other info I should provide.
I did search this board, and the only other topic in this board that seems related to sound issues is about some sort of work-around for setting volume above 300%.
EDIT
Solved via the plug it in and unplug it method.

Re: No Sound
Have you tried installing pavucontrol? When installed, it will appear in the Sound & Video menu as PulseAudio Volume Control. I don't know much about the Debian Edition, but it has fixed a lot of sound problems in the Ubuntu-based edition. Install it, start something playing, then check the settings in PulseAudio Volume Control.

Re: No Sound
I did, and while it shows the visual representation bar thing moving back and forth as music plays, messing around with the settings does not bring sound back. This is the first time it persisted across reboots too.jimallyn wrote:Have you tried installing pavucontrol? When installed, it will appear in the Sound & Video menu as PulseAudio Volume Control. I think we should find out what exactly I have - sound hardware and software. How would I do that?

Re: No Sound
For hardware, you could run
I'm not entirely positive how to show your audio software, but a hackish solution would be to see which of your installed programmes have the word "sound" or "audio" in their description:
inxi -Fxz
in your terminal and post the results here.I'm not entirely positive how to show your audio software, but a hackish solution would be to see which of your installed programmes have the word "sound" or "audio" in their description:

Re: No Sound
Couple of quick suggestions: 1) try another OS just to make sure the hardware works, maybe another Linux live-CD; and 2) run "alsamixer" in terminal, play with its settings. And check the audio output settings in whatever program you're using to play sound, maybe change from PulseAudio to ALSA?

I will try another LiveCD.kevinthefixer wrote:Couple of quick suggestions: 1) try another OS just to make sure the hardware works, maybe another Linux live-CD; and 2) run "alsamixer" in terminal, play with its settings. I played with alsamixer. Volume settings did nothing.
Nothing works - VLC, Firefox, Pale Moon, whatever the generic movie player I never use is called.
How would I switch from PulseAudio to ALSA?
EDIT
I plugged in my headphones and was listening to something. I accidentally unplugged them and my speakers are working. Output being sent to the wrong device?
