Any word...

Postby Reorx » Mon Apr 17, 2017 9:03 pm

...regarding the impending arrival of LMDE 3??? Debian Stretch (9.0) went "Full Freeze" in early February 2017. LMDE 2 (Betsy) was released several weeks before Debian Jessie (8.0). I'm a bit surprised to have not seen even the beginnings of a Beta...

I chatted with Clem about a month or two ago and (IIRC) he said that we wouldn't see LMDE 3 until after the release of Debian 9. I don't know if that means not even a beta 'till then. :(

I think the plan is to release first LM 18.2 and then LMDE3. But I may be wrong. So I would target July/August for LMDE3.
The craziest of us may want to try to update to Stretch before that. Let's see.

A much newer kernel for those with new hardware. Systemd. A new GTK version which will make you more compatible with Mint-Y. And of course an updated version of almost all your software.
And as usual, the number is higher therefore it's better.

Not always! Older hardware prefer lower numbers (specially the kernel).
Linux everywhere. Active Distros in my many computers: LM17.3 (Cinnamon, Xfce); LM18.1 (Cinnamon,Xfce); LMDE 2 (Mate), MXLinux (Xfce), Debian 9 (Xfce).
