Re: MATE 1.18 updates
Hi,
Some of the mate-panel issues you reported were fixed. They'll be packaged into LMDE as soon as we get an upstream point release.

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
Merci, Clément.
Some GTK themes look weird, but it's a moot point for me, as many others are ok.
I'll install the xfce engine tonight and see how they look.
The repo offers gtk2 and gtk3-xfce-engine.
I suppose I have to get the gtk3 one?
All the best!
Encore merci!
François

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
Hi Francois,
That's because MATE switched to GTK3. Each GTK3 version introduces regressions and changes in its theming engine, so except for a handful of themes which are very well maintained, by very patient artists, it's hard to find themes which work well consistently across GTK3 versions and look similar to their GTK2 counterpart (assuming they have any).
We're committed to maintaining only a few themes in that respect, namely Mint-X and Mint-Y.
MATE is committed to maintaining mate-themes.
If the theme you're using doesn't work well with GTK 3.14, you need to contact its artist.

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
I have installed every Mate update since the switch to GTK 3.x. No real issues so far except, as mentioned in a previous post in this thread, the icon for YAGF in the "Open with" dialog box in Caja is still huge. It used to be also huge in the "Other Aplications" list in Caja but that issue seems to have been solved during one of the past upgrades (icon back to normal size again).
The icons for my USB disks on the desktop are still a bit larger than they used to be under GTK 2.x but that is not a real issue, just minor cosmetics.

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
I see, thanks for the info!
I already read the GTK3 version was a big factor in theme rendering, when browsing opendesktop.org.
Better stay with safe and stable choices.

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
@monsta
I just now got updated with "mintmenu" and "mint-x-icons".
Good news, the launchers now work, but dragging folders and files does not.
thanks

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
I just setup a new Laptop with LMDE2 MATE with full patching. Why was the 'Color' tag removed from MATE 1.18? Appearance,Customize and no Color now I use this for my computers to help my poor eyes. Is there a workaround for this?
Re: MATE 1.18 updates
This is due to the change to GTK3, as said earlier in this thread.

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
I should have been a bit clearer. I know that GTK3 is the deal but I was wondering if there is a way to manually change and file(s) to get a different color schemefblais wrote:This is due to the change to GTK3, as said earlier in this thread.
Re: MATE 1.18 updates
Read the part about theme editing here (toward the end):
http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/gnom ... -more.html
He's speaking of Gnome 3 in his article, but it doesn't matter for theme editing.

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
good morning. Once again thanks for your diligence and also for keeping us informed.
I see on the OP that Clem has not listed #590 as a "confirmed issue". Is that an over site or is basic function not considered "important"?
I do realize it is a tough nut to crack...
Thanks, Peter

Good morning
I see that #590 is now closed. Has this issue been corrected? Should I reinstall LMDE Mate and try it?
thanks, Peter

https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/305
If you find a fix you can send a pull request@raveit65: all the fixes are in 1.18 branch now, I think it's ready for the next release. Well, we have #590 left unsolved, but I couldn't find a fix yet.
Re: MATE 1.18 updates
Yes ciaobello, I have seen #305, that was the reason for my question.ciaobello wrote:You have to read the follow up links to on github:sdibaja wrote:Good morning

I am simply a common user, just looking for an update.
thanks anyway

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
Hi,
Since 1.18 update my window selector applet has a variable height, with virtually no minimum. Although I may have dozens of open windows, the window list looks really short and provides just one or two visible slots (sometimes none) between up and down arrows. Scrolling is fast as normal which makes it very difficult to catch the window you want to switch to in such a tiny space.
This has been so since last May and I have reported it to mate-applets issues forum https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-applets/issues/243 but was instructed to come here. The guy who answers there cannot reproduce it probably because his panel is top-oriented. Mine is bottom, as shown in capture below.
Changing panel from bottom-oriented to top-oriented and then back seems to temporarily fix but it reappears some time later.
This message viewtopic.php?f=206&t=250826&p=1348710& ... r#p1348710 seems to be the same issue.
Can this be fixed? TIA!

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
I am happy to see that one big problem is fixed, the file/folder launchers
https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/pull/663
https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/590
I wonder how long it will be before we get updated?

Update: after a full week it is still not fixed

I guess this is not important (or something)

Re: MATE 1.18 updates
I updated from LMDE (MATE) 1 some time ago, but I find that I can't perform some configuration changes. It seems like I have a problem with the mixing of GTK 2.x vs GTK 3.x, as was the case for the previous post #4024.
I tried performing the suggested data check as in Clem's answer here:
"That happens when GTK2 and GTK3 code is being mixed. Typically here it looks like part of your MATE desktop wasn't properly updates.
Make sure all your MATE packages are 1.18:
Code: Select all
dpkg -l | grep mate | grep betsy"
The Only items listed as NON 1.18 were only found by leaving off the part " | grep betsy"
Should I remove the items such as mate-system-tools and system-tools-common?
