Boot sequence stuck at Setting Preliminary Keymap

Post by fcoulier »

Hi !

I got the same problem with a Dell Inspiron 3000 series.

The laptop came preloaded with Ubuntu.
I successfully installed LMDE 2, which worked fine for some times.
I then copied files to the home directory from my old laptop. Files were copied in the home directory, so should not affect booting.

After a reboot, I get stuck with the splash screen.
Under recovery mode, the laptop is stuck "setting preliminary keymap".

I've tried to boot with a live LMDE2 USB key, but I get stucked at the same point...

Any idea ?

KDB: Message split from http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 2#p1048942 as the problem is not exactly the same.

IIRC you should be able to press Esc to turn off the splash screen and see the boot messages. Maybe they'll give some hints about the situation (and the boot might fail at another point than in recovery mode).

Boot sequence stuck at Setting Preliminary Keymap

This thread is getting old but the problem still exists. I cannot even install lmde2 MATE or lmde2 beta MATE on my Toshiba Satellite C55-B because the install freezes during installer bootup at this specific point. I've tried 64 bit, 32 bit, dvd, usb, normal install boot and compatibility boot. It always stops at 'setting preliminary keymap' and the only way to terminate the install is a hard power off.

LM 17.2 MATE and LM 18.1 MATE both run very well on this laptop.
