Re: SOLVED-I would love to go back to Linux right now [SOLVED].

Sorry have the serial number listed in the terminal read-out, should have said manufacture date.
CCL won't help as they only support Window and they say "it's a Linux issue, try to install windows and see if that works, if it doesn't then it's the drive".
The Drive is listed in the bios, computer and the computer and disk app, adn according to CCL it's purely a software issue.
I don't know of a tool to test it as Seagate don't support Linux either.

I've read that there has to be a some sort of file on the drive for Linux to see it but not sure if it applies here.

So, could it be that I need to format partition the drive for Mint to see it?
If so what settings should I use for;
ERASE; Don't overwrite existing data, Overwrite existing data.
TYPE; FAT, NTFS, Ext4, LUKS +Ext4

Or is it something that has to be typed into the Terminal?

Your results here do not show any partition on the 1TB Seagate.
Install the Gparted program:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gparted
Then use Gparted to create whatever partitions you want on the Seagate.
After that, post the result, once again, of:

Code: Select all

sudo lsblk -o model,name,size,fstype,label,owner,uuid,mountpoint

Thanks, I'm not sure what options to choose that will make Mint see the 1TB drive.

I'm just guessing that by formatting the drive it may solve the problem and Linux will see the drive.
Reading and trying to figure it out has just made it more confusing [only have one grey cell left].
One topic goes on about needing to make a folder on the OS drive to link with the second drive to be able to transfer the files into said drive.

I wish to use the 1TB like a folder to store the file I'm not working with on the OS drive.

Using the Disks app should I just have a single partition and choose the options [Don't overwrite existing data] and [FAT] format or Overwrite the drive and [Ext4] format?
Again thanks for the reply.

You will need to create a partition (or partitions) on that drive in order to use it. I have always used Gparted instead of Disks, because I have more faith in Gparted. Disks would probably work.
You should format the partition ext4. (If you want to allow Windows to use the same partition, then it should be NTFS.)

I'll use Gparted and a single partition NTFS format to be safe and see what happens.

Results;
Name ~ $ sudo lsblk -o model,name,size,fstype,label,owner,uuid,mountpoint
[sudo] password for wilf:
MODEL NAME SIZE FSTYPE LABEL OWNER UUID MOUNTPOINT
ST1000D sdb 931.5G root
└─sdb1 931.5G ntfs root 038EE31E5EBD5DF0
DRW-24D sr0 1024M root
ADATA S sda 119.2G root
├─sda2 110.9G ext4 root 3369bae5-305f-4ba8-b70e-6af0a16f7475 /
├─sda3 7.9G swap root f9848b7e-f85d-408d-bd42-3144eb7be302 [SWAP]
└─sda1 512M vfat root D824-8F0B

First attempt and I now know that I maybe should have named it 1T or something more recognisable.
I've moved a small file and opened.
There's a link on the desktop that works so it looks good.

The one way to be sure of manufacture date is to look on the physical disk label itself.
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....
