the "audio-volume-change.ogg" sound is a hidden file in this folder:
/usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo
You can copy this file, and edit to sound level of zero using Audacity or the like, then place it in
the above folder as root. Then the volume adjust will not produce a sound

UPDATE
I have the file; it is .oga -- not .ogg -- apparently un-compressed. Audacity allowed me to amplify the file to 0 and export it back out as .oga
i think i need to use sudo to put it back in the /stereo directory and then do a chown on it ?

Re: Sound Applet kill chirp
yes oga--my bad.
In my system I renamed the original file as audio-volume-change2.oga
and added the modified one as audio-volume-change.oga
I just opened the usr/share folder as administrator, then navigated to the folder and dragged the modified file in there.

can use menu: In poking around I discovered that if I click on the sound applet in the tray, and then select sound settings followed by sound effects that they have a dialog with switches for the various effects...all41 wrote:yes oga--my bad.

i switched off the "changing the sound volume" selection, however this required a system restart to take effect
one of the issues i've been after for some time is to get better automatic control over replay gain. I'm using VLC right now and it has options to honor replay gain at the track level-- but -- i think this value has to be set accurately for it to be effective. it's too bad SoundConverter doesn't offer this as an option. we could do it 1 track at a time using the amplify option in Audacity -- but -- that would be a real chore!!
