Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
I am a current user of Mint 17.3, but a few weeks ago I tried out LMDE. The first thing I did was install gufw. In 17.3 when you install gufw it puts an entry under Preferences in the start menu, but when I looked for it there in LMDE it wasn't there, and I couldn't find it anywhere in LMDE's start menu. My question for those users of both LMDE and Gufw is: where do you find in the start menu? This may seem silly to some, but because of this, that's why I went back to 17.3. But I really would like to try out LMDE again, if anyone call tell me where the start menu entry for gufw is placed in LMDE. Thanks.

Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
It is in the menu, just like for ordinary Mint...
however, some users (including me) have noticed that it goes missing for no apparent reason. In my case, not only would it vanish from the menu, but it would freeze and then crash every other time I launched it.
I ended up just using ufw--it's extremely easy and is gufw's backend, after all, so it works the same way.

Any idea why this issue exists in LMDE?

Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
I think it's an upstream issue, but I don't know any other details.
Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
I don't do LMDE but as a XFCE user this sort of thing with applications happens all the time.
Look at the contents of /usr/share/applications/gufw.desktop. Usually at the bottom you may see something like this:

Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
I had this issue too ! Have a look at my thread from 2 weeks ago:
viewtopic.php?f=238&t=220693
Btw, I installed LMDE on 2 different computers, one had no sign of gufw anywhere (which is what that post was about) and the other had it in the control center as well as in the application list. Go figure !

Thanks for the link Sydney. I'll try it out if/when I go back to LMDE.
Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
It's an old stupid bug in Debian:
https://bugs.debian.org/681315
Nobody cares. Looks like this package isn't maintained in Debian at all.

Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
It's not even packaged correctly for Ubuntu.
Just installed it on Xubuntu 16.04 and it does appear in the Menu but it doesn't run:

Given the dislike between Debian and Ubuntu and firewalld actually knowing what to do with "profiles" maybe everyone is moving to that firewall.tester@vxub1604:~$ sudo apt-get install python-gobject

Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
Well, I've checked the dependencies of firewalld package and there's no GTK+ or Qt listed. So I guess it has no GUI. Maybe there's a 3rd-party one somewhere...
Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
It most certainly does have a gui: firewall-applet
And it ties into the network manager which is what I think Gufw is striving for with it's "profiles" but it's not implemented right. :
This is a spooky process I suppose since you need to remove ufw and gufw then install firewalld and firewall-applet. I did this on Ubuntu 15.10 because I could rather than because I wanted or needed it. WIll it work on Mint let alone LMDE - I have no idea. Please add a [SOLVED] at the end of your original subject header if your question has been answered and solved.
Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
Thank you! I will try this.
Re: Question for users of both LMDE and gufw
Ah... I should've checked the source package for that
Well, I see it in Debian repos (starting from Jessie) as well, so it might work in LMDE 2.
