Cinnamon: task panel goes invisible in seamless mode on Virtualbox

I am running LMD2 cinnamon as a guest os with Virtualbox 5.0.20 on win 10. But when I switch to seamless mode, Cinnamon's task panel goes invisible. I first thought the panel is gone, but then when I move a window behind the panel, the panel shows. So the panel is there, just not rendered correctly.
The workaround I found so far is to set the panel to be 'auto hide', but its really annoying sometimes.
Anyone seeing this same issue? How to fix this?

attached two screen shots, host os is running notepad (maximized) at the background.

: guest os running a terminal app maximized.

: guest os terminal app not maximized, moved behind to the panel area.

Thanks,

That is the purpose of seamless mode: Make the appearance of a window inside of the guest so, that it seems to be an application window of the host. The goal is, to make the window for the VM smaller, occupying only the needed space for the application instead of the complete guest OS.

No, that's not what is supposed to be, I don't see this problem in mate, xfce, kde, etc.

Did you find a solution?
It just happened to me after upgrading to Mint 18.1 and virtualbox 5.1.
