systemctl: Failed to get D-Bus connection: Unknown error -1

Post by eneo99 »

Hello,
I tried to install a deb and I got the following error:

Failed to get D-Bus connection: Unknown error -1

The error comes from the program "systemctl".

Code: Select all

eneo99@p01 ~ $ systemctl
Failed to get D-Bus connection: Unbekannter Fehler -1
I use:
LMDE 2 Cinnamon 64-bit
Cinnamon-Version 3.0.6
Linux pc01 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt25-2+deb8u3 (2016-07-02) x86_64 GNU/Linux

What can I do to make the program systemctl running properly?

Best regards

systemctl is the tool to control the systemd service manager. LMDE 2 doesn't use systemd's service manager but uses classical SysV init instead. I assume you're trying to install something that requires systemd. Care to share what it is you're trying to install and from where you got the .deb file?

I'd got this message, too. I installed 'respin-deb' to backup and generate ISO file. I need this tool but when I re-install systemd-sysv, I will lose my respin-deb.

If you have a new question, open a new topic. The topic here about why systemctl command gives an error on LMDE 2 has been answered.
