No sound with firefox_50.0~linuxmint1+betsy_amd64.deb ?

Postby gweaver » Tue Nov 22, 2016 11:00 am

Having upgraded to firefox_50.0~linuxmint1+betsy_amd64.deb I lost sound in Firefox.
I've downgraded to firefox_49.0.2~linuxmint1+betsy_amd64.deb and sound is now back.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hi, gweaver.

Cause for missing sound on Firefox 50.0 perhaps this change? Firefox 50.0 release notes - section "changed":
Blocked versions of libavcodec older than 54.35.1

Potential workaround on Firefox 50.0, provided your libavcodec is older than 54.35.1.

Best regards,
Karl

If it can help, the libavcodec in LMDE (provided all updates are applied) is v56:

Code: Select all

$ dpkg -l | grep libavcodec
ii  libavcodec56:amd64                      10:2.6.9-dmo1                        amd64        Library to encode decode multimedia streams - runtime files

Cheers!

Thanks all, it's working again now.

I did have libavcodec-extra-56 installed, plus libavcodec57 from jessie-backports.

Some of you may have noticed that I removed most of the dmo packages from my machine yesterday (22nd), but I think I lost sound in Firefox two days ago (21st), so I don't think this is a factor.

I installed libavcodec56 (which removes libavcodec-extra-56) and sound in Firefox came back. I then installed libavcodec-extra-56 (removes libavcodec56) and still have sound, so I'm not any the wiser!

Probably your computer was bored and decided to play a trick on you.
