I have the same issue: I want to use QMapShack on a netbook on which I just made a fresh install of Mint LMDE.
I had elementary OS "Freya" installed prior to this, which is also based on Ubuntu, but was not convinced at the end. Having one level less (GNU>Debian>Mint instead of GNU>Debian>Ubuntu>Mint) is a bit more appealing and looks more robust for me.
Where do I enable this Debian Jessie backports repository?
How to compile Qmapshack or otherwise install it?
