Currently the version of Hexchat in LMDE is 2.10.1.
I have been experiencing a lot of Disconnects and Reconnects connecting to freenode.
I followed some recommendations:
I have set /set net_ping_timeout 240 and that has helped some.
I have disabled Away Tracking. However the problem persists.
I am looking for other suggestions, or seeing if an upgrade to 2.12.4 is possible where the problem
with ping timeouts is supposed to be resolved.

Abandoning this post since I can't get an answer. Hexchat is running correctly on Win7 so I am running it from there rather than Mint.
