Mintupdate not functioning anymore LMDE 2

Post by elliotsagan »

Hi all,

I am a long time LMDE user and very happy whit it.
Unexpectedly Mintupdate comes up with an error and a red cross on system icon.

the error message goes: Exception occurred in the refresh thread: <class 'subprocess.CalledProcessError'>

also: Could not refresh the list of updates.

I am not a frequent forum user because never I've needed help.

Please: anyone can come up to help?

TIA

That ran with no error message. Are you still getting an error with mintupdate?

I wonder if the Ubuntu Trusty ppa that was added could cause at least part of the problem? :?:

You can create a new user to see if that user has the same problem.
If you are using a different language, try setting the new user to use English.

Did you remove the PPA and update?

Hi Penn,

thank you very much for replying .

mintupdate
- $ mintUpdate: no process found
Command '/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/checkAPT.py --use-synaptic 52428813 2>/dev/null' returned non-zero exit status 1
-- Exception occurred in the refresh thread: <class 'subprocess.CalledProcessError'>

Looking forward for any help.

My next step would be to try some Synaptic Package Manager solutions. Open it from the main menu under "Administration". Are there broken packages, autoremovable, residual or upgradable packages? If broken, what? Try to reinstall mintupdate (just use the search button to find it) or if it is upgradable, upgrade it.

If for some reason synaptic isn't opening terminal output when for an attempt to open int in terminal

Code: Select all

synaptic

Ok. Let's go:

No broken packages.

Reinstalled mintupdate without errors.

But still the same red cross over the system tray icon and no updates refresh.

Thanks for the help.

Try creating a new administrative user and see if that user still has the problem.

A little bit more info from you?

What were you trying to install with the PPA? Have you ever had a different desktop environment than what was originally installed on that computer (Cinnamon, Mate, XFCE, KDE, Gnome)? How long was LMDE installed before this issue occurred?

Results of

Code: Select all

inxi -Sz

Code: Select all

apt policy mintupdate mintsources python3
Full contents of the file /etc/apt/.sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list

If I were at this point I'd turn off Update Manager in startup list and restart. Then mark both mintupdate and mintsources for complete removal in Synaptic and apply then reinstall both and then restart mintupdate from terminal again, but that is me. I guess a good question to help decide if you are at that point is "How close are you to giving up and reinstalling the OS?".
