No network connection with L470

Post by Otto7 » Wed Jul 11, 2018 2:32 am

I installed LMDE2 on a Lenovo L470. It worked fine without the network connection (it also didn't work on the lifesystem). I wasn't able to get the system identifying the cards.
lspci -nnk | grep -i net -A2 shows this:
00:1f.6 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation Device [8086:15d8] (rev 21)
Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:505f]
03:00.0 Unassigned class [ff00]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device [10ec:522a] (rev 01)

iwconfig:

lo no wireless extensions.

inxi -Fz shows this:

Doesn't it work because of that the kernel is too old?
Before I used LMDE2 on an old Dell D820 and I love the system and I had not to change the system for years, so I would like to get it running on this laptop too...
It would be nice to get help. Don't expect me to have a good knowledge - I already searched in the Forum, but may be I used the wrong keywords...
Thank you for any help!

No Answer means that I better install Windows? That works from the beginning!

...i'm not that familiar with Debian's quirks those days, but i think that on this relatively new laptop you will need a newer kernel (4.6+) & firmware-iwlwifi as well...

Please don't let a ‘no answer' bring you to that conclusion. Many of use don't use LMDE 2, so we don't have experience in it and don't have an suggestion or an answer.

Hello Jerry and thx-1138,
thank you for your answers. :D Your ideas help me to find a path forward without trying things I haven't done before that would bring me into troubles... And to LMDE - I like on it that I once made my old Dell run on it - it ran 4 years without any problems... And my other old laptops all run on that.
Back to the topic, if I understand your suggestions, I have to get a new kernel and install the jessie-backports? Correct?

Many thanks for your help!! :D
