[Solved] Notebook speakers mute after installing LMDE 2

Hi all,
I had an unrecoverable crash trying to update LMDE 1 and decided to reinstall from scratch (this is how I learned about LMDE 2). Installing was flawless. But I have a problem: the notebook speakers make no sound at all. The phone jack output is OK, as well as the internal microphone and input from an external audio interface I use for recordings. All inputs and outputs were working OK in LMDE 1 since first installation (roughly, an year ago) till the fatal update.
I tried to play with Pulse settings, but they don't show the applications trying to output audio anymore and, whatever setting in "Hardware" tab I try, the speakers keep mute.
I found this bug, which similar symptoms, but related to alsa drivers, so I'm not sure if it's the case. I also found hints on using hda-analyzer, but didn't try for the same reason (alsa related, not Pulse).
Does anyone have a hint?

Thanks,
Emerson

Hi Emerson!
That bug is too old, I suppose.
Maybe you'll find a hint on my help, chapter 5, sound (-> signature).

Hi, Seeley,
Problem solved. I had already played with pavucontrol. Though it wasn't installed, it was accessible by right-clicking the audio icon. Maybe it was only a non-funcional frontend (if so, it's a bug). I installed pavucontrol and unchecked "mark as secondary" (dunno if this is the correct option in English). I have audio in my speakers now.
Thanks and kudos for the great help page!
Emerson

It was the sound properties dialog of your desktop environment (e.g. in MATE it reminds of pavucontrol - but does not look exactly the same).
