Betsy2 not detecting all soundports

Post by andersbrontosaurush »

Yesterday I decided to finally remove the outdated LinuxMint 14 (cinnamon).
I formatted the entire HD and replaced it with a dual boot consisting of windows 8.1 and LMDE-2.

My problem is that LMDE 2 won't offer me the mobo on-board analog 5.1 sound. It detects the s/pdif and the hdmiport. It also detects my external soundcard (for which I have no cables...). I then tried it in windows and the strange thing is that it wouldn't play it there either. After scratching my head, complaining about everything bad in the world and reading up on forums I inserted the old LinuxMintcinnamon14 live CD and it works like a charm so what is the problem here? Is it some driver Betsy is missing or what?
Does anybody have a suggestion about what I can do to get it working?

This is what I found using lscpi -v on Betsy2.

It seems to my eye that both systems use the the same drivers. A strange thing that occured when I was trying the Mint14 just now was that in that system the hdmiport soes not output any sound so it's a similar problem but the other way around.

Betsy 2 does not list analogport at all. Mint14 Lists all ports but does not output sound on hdmi.
Since both ports are on the mobo using what I understand is the same kernel, could there be a conflict here?

Anyway, I really would like to use Debian instead of Ubuntu so I'll be most thankful for all suggestions.

As you can see it contains the analog output that is missing on LMDE 2 below.

This may be a stupid question, but have you tried if your internal audio is detected with a device (speakers or headphone) plugged into it? Because my LMDE also doesn't show the internal audio unless something is plugged into it.

OMG.
That would have been both beautiful and horrible at the same time.
Had to try it immediately even if it meant crawling in under a cupboard.
Unfortunately it didn't work. Everything looks as usual.

Breakthrough!
I installed alsa-tools-gui and as a bonus HDA jack retask came along.
Clicked around tried to get it right with remapping but I think it was the autobutton that did the trick.
I do now have the possiblility to choose analog audio and I have sound from all speakers except center front speaker. If I enter sound settings and choose surround 5.1 I do not get any sound when I press the testbuttons but if I play music or stream film I, as mentioned above, get cound from front left and right, rear left and right, bassbox. Only center gives no sound so it's not perfect but still fantastic.
