I have fairly straightforward hardware, nothing fancy. My graphics card is an NVidia 9500 GT, with VGA and DVI sockets. I'm on cinnamon, by the way - just upgraded to 2.8. In the past - on LMDE1 - I had run a twin monitor setup with very little problem, but for one reason or another had swapped back to a single head since before the upgrade to LMDE2. Today I thought I'd go back to a twin - for no real reason, I just happen to have an old LG 17" available and thought why not?
But here's the thing: whichever monitor I plug into the DVI socket displays in chunky old 640x480, and no other resolution is offered in the display control settings. I'm using the open nv driver by the way, and I think I was probably using the proprietary NVidia driver with my previous setup - might that be a factor?
Am I going to have to get messy with xorg.conf?
EDIT: Solved it! Just killed my old xorg.conf file and it sorted itself out.
