[SOLVED] LMDE2 can't find my android phone's wifi hotspot.

Post by baronsamedi »

That is it: My laptop gets just about any wifi around, but when I put up the hotspot in my phone, it won't show up in the list of available wifis.

Can't figure out what to do. Everything I find through Google is apparently for the reverse problem: the hotspot in the laptop and the phone trying to connect to it.

Edit: also, the hotspot has been checked in and used through at least another tablet.

I would do this

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install b43-firmware-installer && sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source
then reboot and see how it works

Thanks. b43-firmware-installer could not be found, so I went for firmware-b43-installer instead, with:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer && sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source
It installed it alright, but then it couldn't find bcmwl-kernel-source, and there I got stuck.

I rebooted anyway. Still can't detect the wifi.

This should find what package was used to install the other driver

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep -i broadcom
Post results

Suc-cesssssssssssss!!! Thanks a bundle!

However, I think I hit the keyboard when I shouldn't and got a strange message in the last line:
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-4-amd64
W: The operation was interrupted before it could be finished
Is this bad? Will my puppies die from this? Anything else I should do?

Anyway: Thank you so much, man. I'll mark the tread as solved (and on to the next issue in my list :mrgreen: )
