I too would love to know the answer to this one. It was so simple with LMDE 1, 2 & 3.
LMDE4
HP Pavilion 500-260ea
8Gb ram
AMD A10 6700 (3.7GHz) 4 core

Browsing through synaptic search results for nvidia or nvidia-driver would give you the clues, as would sudo apt policy nvidia-driver.

If it were my system, I'd give sudo apt install nvidia-driver a run. However that is unnecessary if you installed LMDE4 for nVidia from the get-go. It's on the main grub menu of the live installer.
It's pronounced kad-eye-cha, not kada-itcha.

Would the official Debian documentation help?

The installation grub option doesn't work for legacy cards. Same with apt install nvidia-driver.

Nobody mentioned that legacy cards were involved.

The previous versions worked with these simple commands:

sudo apt install nvidia-driver nvidia-xconfig nvidia-settings
sudo nvidia-xconfig
sudo reboot

Why make lmde4 more complicated?

In Debian Stretch you would get 390.116 as the current driver (without using backports), in Debian Buster that version is in the legacy package.

Because time marches on. Not being snarky. My Linux machine is BIOS (though not Nvidia). Similar problems with other issues.

You haven't even answered the question of whether this is a legacy card.

If so, see Monsta's reply above. If not, see KMan's command.

Frankly, you're not trying very hard.
