<SOLVED> How can i change my log-in screen 'theme'?

Post by TK66 »

Hi newbie here...
Long time Linux Mint User (but sporadically, always switching between the Big 3 OS). Used mainline Linux Mint before (18.2 and 19)
Just Came back to Mint and Decided to try out LMDE.
How can I change the Log-in Window to look like Chrome OS's or Arch Linux's Log-in Window?

Coming to a thread near you: Lots of bragging about my AMD 5950X. Currently delayed due to high demand.

Thank you for the reply good sir/ma'am...

Tried it, didn't yield the results i wanted.... done some reading up while waiting for a reply and found that what i really wanna change is what they call a greeter... I want the greeter to look like Arch Linux's Greeter. Any tips on how i can do this?

Depends which you installed for Arch Linux, there is no default. Additionally, do you really want to start screwing that much with greeter setup? It could render you unable to log into Cinnamon if it goes wrong. Whatever you do, take a backup first.

I want it to look like this https://i.pinimg.com/originals/95/c5/32 ... bf54d6.png. but without the Arch Logo.
I've already made back-up of my system

a picture is not what I asked for, which arch package provides that greeter layout? yes it looks quite nice but it is not one I have seen before, it may not even be available for Linux Mint.

I want it to look like this
https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/comme ... e_greeter/
https://github.com/iamsubhranil/Rice/bl ... ecutive.md

However there is a big hurdle - lightdm-webkit2-greeter isn't available in the Debian / Ubuntu / Mint repos so you'll need to find a third party repo for it or build it yourself from source.
For custom Nemo actions, useful scripts for the Cinnamon desktop, and Cinnamox themes visit my Github pages.

Then there is Aether (and a lot of Patience) too according to the github page. Looks nigh on foolish to attempt but if you are really that bothered good luck and please share the result :D

Haha, I'll try and do it even though i know nothin' about buildin' stuff from source. I'll share the results here. Please wish me luck. 😂 (My own stubbornness will be my bane)

UPDATE: I made it work and found a greeter that i like.
All i did was follow this tutorial by Chris Titus Tech :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dYqisDIcC0
and on the subject of the webkit2 greeter not being available on Debian i used this to add the repo: https://software.opensuse.org/download. ... t2-greeter
