Ok, after several hard power off cycles, and the same with shutdown, now it works fine. But I am booting it once a day, and using it for a couple of minutes, which seem to make LMDE 5 happy. This reminds me of the bad old days of the late 1990's/early 2000's when you almost were afraid to shut down your Linux system.
