log-in screen password problem recently lmde 5

Post by cretsiah »

log-in screen password problem recently

so recently i am having a sudden log-in screen issue

it requires me to re-boot the system to get back into the system

the only things i am aware of doing before this issue is a) updating b) installing Minetest

update was openssl 1.1.1n-0+deb11u3 2022-06-27

minetest + mods+ mod packs was installed using software manager 2022-06-27

surely these would not cause it...

most common time of occurence is after screensaver kicks in

If you have disabled manual login (no password) and after the computer suspends/hibernates (or some such) you can't get a usable login screen, try hitting ESC

Odd problem...if the login screen seems locked up or unresponsive - perhaps give this a try:

ctrl+alt+f2 (login if necessary)
type "ps -ef | grep kscreenlocker_greet"
then kill the PID of the process: kill -9 Whatever_The_PID_Is
Then type: exit
ctrl+alt+f7

I had a similar problem with the logon screen locking up and becoming unresponsive after waking (which system updates seem to have fixed since) and the workaround was as stated above. Killing the process would make it relaunch when I ctrl+alt+f7 back into my normal environment, and it would then be responsive again and allow me to enter the username/password.
