Problems with screen resolution in LMDE 5

Post by eonline »

Hi all, in the screen resolution is blank and everything looks very big. I am a Windows user and I would like the screen resolution 2560x1440 as I had it in Windows with the virtual resolution of the amd software, my monitor supports 1920x1080 native but I always used it at 2560x1440 as I commented before. Is there any possibility to get this screen resolution I want? Thank you all very much in advance for your help. Best regards.

You are not running your desktop on your native resolution now. A driver problem?
Post your system info. System Settings-->System Info or inxi -Fxxrz in terminal.

AMD VSR is not supported by any driver on Linux.
You can simulate the functionality on X by setting custom modes with xrandr or on Wayland (not supported on Mint) with its inherent scaling capabilities. Possibly too advanced stuff for you.
Gamescope on Steam Deck offers similar functionality but I doubt it can be easily used by normal Linux distributions.

Your graphics card, seemingly a radeon xt 6700, is not supported out of the box by Debian Bullseye, the base system in LMDE5 Elsie.
You need a newer kernel. 5.18 kernel is available by bullseye backports repo. And newer firmware which is available only in "sid" the unstable version of Debian. Doable but I recommend, if you are newcomer to Linux, trying the newest Linux Mint 21 Vanessa, the main edition of Mint, instead.
You'll get a much smoother "ride" on your decent machine by starting with anything you need to have your graphics card up n running on Linux.

Welcome to the forum, eonline.

I also recommend using Linux Mint 21 instead of LMDE5 with your hardware.

I helped someone with similar hardware to yours in this topic Second Monitor not detected; Check your drivers notification? <SOLVED> and that is what they ultimately decided to do.

The graphics driver should have loaded automatically. If that did happen, then you should have options in the Display app to change resolutions. If that is not the case, please post your inxi information for Linux Mint 21.

Yes but I only have the native resolution of the monitor that is 1920x1080 and lower resolutions and I want it as I had it in Windows at 2560x1440. Thank you very much.

That is what the graphics driver is designed to do--run at the monitor's native resolution.

I do not know what Windows was doing to artificially give you something more than what your monitor can do. Was there a special program to make that change?

There is no Debian version for use with LMDE5, also you may have downloaded the wrong Ubuntu driver version too. You need the Jammy build for Mint 21:
https://repo.radeon.com/amdgpu-install/ ... -1_all.deb

Either way, you still will not get the radeon software suite you see in windows and and super virtual resolution is not a thing for linux.
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.
