Re: LMDE4 Clean install - Boot Device Not Found
Dear Fossy, i am afraid this was a one off. I had to go through a lot of choices as you see in the pics. But now it still doesn't boot...
I've checked with Disks and Gparted how LDM4 auto install formatted the disk.
When installing you are asked to put GRUB on: SDA, SDA1 or SDA2. It turns out it should be SDA1, not SDA. i GUESS SYS IS LOOKING ON sda WHERE is nothing installed. On sda1 it is. So system can't find grub.
What about that idea? Can you change the path so don't have to do the reinstal and all the updates?

Well for me you are. I'm afraid you will have to live with that. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!Fossy wrote:Remenber : I’m not a guru !
I do appreciate your help!
But i am surprised there are so little supporters for LMDE4 and we are left in the dark. Almost no topic is [SOLVED] All seem to leave disappointed.
You are right, there is no bloody mount point! In Gparted tried to assign mount point but this seems to be impossible to do afterwards. Can only change name + label which is just cosmetic.
Then tried Disks didn't succeed either to changemount point.
So why does the automated installer doesn't do this?! It is a bloody nuisance!
Code: Select all
# UNCONFIGURED FSTAB FOR BASE SYSTEM
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
# /dev/sda3
UUID=<filter> / ext4 defaults 0 1
# /dev/sda2
UUID=<filter> none swap sw 0 0
# /dev/sda1
#UUID=<filter>-FBCD /boot/efi vfat defaults 0 1
UUID=<filter>-FBCD /boot/efi vfat defaults 0 1

Re: LMDE4 Clean install - Boot Device Not Found
I assume you
with the UUID showing for your / partition in blkid and
same again for your EFI partition.
Not seen proc in an fstab before, or the comment on unconfigured, but then I've not used LMDE.
<filter>
ed out the UUIDs, there is nothing sensitive about them. Compare the UUIDs you get with blkid with what you have in fstab,
Code: Select all
UUID=<filter> / ext4 defaults 0 1
Code: Select all
UUID=<filter>-FBCD /boot/efi vfat defaults 0 1
Not seen proc in an fstab before, or the comment on unconfigured, but then I've not used LMDE.

Thanks But No Thanks.
Ok i am done with LDME4, when it is such a pain to only get it installed what else will be awaiting after that would have ever succeeded?!
(i've read about the kernel updating which should be done by hand, whenever there becomes one available)
I want to thanks Fossy and AndyMH for their continuing support! I really appreciated that!

Re: [FORGET IT] LMDE4 Clean install - Boot Device Not Found
Original poster is missing a very important step to install LMDE4 in UEFI mode, When you boot up your pc you must go into the bios (om my Dell it is the F12 key which you hold until the bios screen comes up) once in the bios you must select under the uefi menu boot from usb device, the LMDE4 installer will then boot into uefi mode and install all efi required dirs and files.
If you do not do this then you are booting into the legacy mode of the LMDE4 installer and it WILL NOT install UEFI files correctly. There are 2 boot menus...the UEFI one looks different than the legacy menu. Once you done this you will know which mode you are by the way the install menu looks.

Thats good...Now when you go into your bios do you see two entry's for your usb device? One under the UEFI section and one under the legacy boot section?

Re: [FORGET IT] LMDE4 Clean install - Boot Device Not Found
Ok now under # boot order, move the generic usb device up into the first position, forcing your pc to boot from the usb device. When it boots up and you start the installation, when you get to the section of partitioning, Pick the first entry install on entire disk, letting the installer create the required partitions and install everything automatically. I forget the exact wording but it is the very first option at the top of the screen.
Do not try and make or modify partions. let the installer do all the work.....
Before you attempt this please look at my followup post, on Page 3 very important
