rebooting in LMDE

Post by solos »

Does anyone know of a way to preselect the next device to boot from , like in MacOs via system prefs before a reboot?

There is this topic elsewhere: https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... -kernel-os
It involves changing the the grub.conf and setting a value in a specific file just before the reboot.
While this may work (I didnt try) you have to consider that you lose your changes with every grub-update and have to implement them again.
Furthermore, if you embark on that endeavor make sure you are prepared fror a 'broken grub config' situation.
If you think the issue is solved, edit your original post and add the word solved to the title.

You could use the dd command to flip the appropriate bits in the boot loader code.

This way, you don't have to update-grub but the next update will undo your dd changes.
