Solved: LMDE 3 Unable to login

Post by LMikceh77 » Mon Sep 10, 2018 6:27 am

Hello,
I installed LMDE 3. Everything went well.
I registered my username, a password and the automatically login.
When I started the system the login appeared.
None of my attempts to login suceeded.

What can I do?
How can I change my username or my password?
Is there a chance to start a shell?
Starting with the recovery mode did not function better.
Is there any idea to solve my problem?

Thank you for your answer.
J.

Obviously Cinnamon desktop is too demanding for your computer. One solution is to install lighter environment like Xfce or Mate. An example Xfce installation via tty :

On the login screen press Ctrl Alt F1 and login into tty. Then run

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install task-xfce-desktop
sudo update-alternatives --config x-session-manager ## choose xfce4
startxfce4 -- :1
For getting back to the login screen press Ctrl Alt F7

PS. Note caps between 4 -- and -- :

Hello,
I solved the problem by reinstalling LMDE 3 (25 minutes).
The problem was obviously that I choose password and automatical login.
After reinstalling there was no problem any more to login with my password.
My Notebook (Asus, Pentium, pae, 32-bit) was not the problem. It works well up to now .

Thank you for your post/s.
