Debian_version
Hi just recently upgraded from LMDE3 to LMD4.
What should be the debian_version number? Mine is showing 10.2. Is the LMDE4 not making direct use of the debian repos? Should it not be reflecting 10.4 (the latest as of May 2020)?

Re: Debian_version
Just curious, where did you grab that info?
'lsb_release -da' tells me, that I'm running LMDE 4 (debbie) as does 'cat /etc/os-release'.
A quick check for openssl also shows that the package version installed is the one from 10.4.

With debian distributions, I've always used this file to determine or remind me if I've updated the particular system already without actually checking in aptitude. Debian likes to push out these sub-releases/updates every few months. I'm wondering if LMDE is not keeping update to the latest debian updates

Good question, i take the iso right after the releasing of LMDE4, but it's not disturbing for me to have the last debian base.

Re: Debian_version
It's looking like an oversight, since they use their own base-files, it seems they are simply forgetting to update the file when they push the new release.

Re: Debian_version
Indeed, nothing to worry about as the rest of the packages get updated anyway, they do not rely on that information string.

Re: Debian_version
After an update i have this strange output in debian_version:
I think it would be necessary that I stop consulting "P * rnh * b", it rubs off on my system :/
All kidding aside, since 20/08/01 debian is upgraded to version "10.5". Source

Re: Debian_version
So it's fixed in the latest?
I just saw that Debian has pushed out a 10.5 (6 days ago). I'll be doing an update today.
I'm not yet using LMDE4 as my daily driver yet. I'm tracking down why the power consumption is 0.5 W higher on it then with LMDE3 or with LMDE3 with Buster packages installed.

Re: Debian_version
Out of curiosity but should an LMDE user do an update from the Debian website or wait until the LMDE team has passed it through?
It takes considerable knowledge, just to realize the extent of my own ignorance. -- Thomas Sowell

I wish the version of LMDE was MATE instead of Cinnamon......Cause MATE runs better.

Re: Debian_version
It doesn't matter what version of Debian you have - 10.2 is typical for LMDE4.
If Debian release a point distribution, such as 10.4 etc, this is just 10.2 + updates, fixes etc.
These will get installed by LMDE as a rolling update - but
So long as you have version 10.x you are OK - note that you have Debian amongst your list of repositories, so you get relevant changes automatically.

Re: Debian_version
You can use MATE instead. Install the MATE desktop. Then you can get a list of desktop managers to use when you login. I've set MATE to default -- I still leave Cinnamon installed. I like a little Compiz on top of my MATE, as well,Silvermass wrote: ⤴Mon Aug 10, 2020 5:19 am I wish the version of LMDE was MATE instead of Cinnamon......Cause MATE runs better.

Re: Debian_version
Do you have everything in the same user profile and no repercussions from doing so? If so then you are lucky. From experience with using multiple desktop environments in the past, altering settings in one can screw the other up. So I ended up having a user profile per desktop environment with a shared location across the DE choices for the un-hidden Docs, Pics, Music, Vids etc.ddurdle wrote: ⤴Wed Aug 12, 2020 12:45 pmYou can use MATE instead. Re: Debian_version
If you mean profiles as home directories, it's one home directory, as each desktop window manager stores it's settings in it's own configuration location. The options to switch between them is the responsibility of the login manager (lightdm in my case). I noticed in LMDE4 even KODI makes itself available as a separate desktop manager in the dropdown list in the login manager.antikythera wrote: ⤴Fri Aug 14, 2020 6:26 amDo you have everything in the same user profile and no repercussions from doing so? Re: Debian_version
They need to update the base-files file as updating gets you the following error message N: Repository 'https://deb.debian.org/debian buster InRelease' changed its 'Version' value from '10.3' to '10.8.

Re: Debian_version
It's not an error, it's purely informational.cpatrick08 wrote: ⤴Sat Feb 06, 2021 5:59 pm Repository 'https://deb.debian.org/debian buster InRelease' changed its 'Version' value from '10.3' to '10.8.
