Strange kernel version numbering

Post by DDR-4 »

I have installed LMDE4 on a 32bit Advent laptop without any significant issues - apart from me trashing the GRUB bootloader and having to reinstall it here: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=342428

The update manager tells me there is a kernel update.

Is it safe (or needed) to apply these kernel updates, as I think I have a system that works OK with the current version numbered at:

Code: Select all

spock@advent-laptop:~$ uname -r
4.19.0-14-686

How do I get rid of these kernel updates, so they don't appear in the update manager?

Shall I tell UM to ignore them, or is it safe to apply these please?

Kernel updates are generally safe to apply. I've never had a problem with any yet. If you do, just return to your previous kernel in Grub, Advanced Options.
