A lot of google search convinced me that I don't need this nmbd.service, since all pcs I connect to are win10 or linux. Now what should I do to speed up boot? Or how do I remove this service?

Hardware problems on LMDE? Solution:
sudo apt-get install -t buster-backports linux-image-amd64 firmware-linux firmware-misc-nonfree

To use a version of LMDE after EOL, replace mint's Firefox with debian's one

There are a few things that could be disabled to increase your boot-up speed...Just copy and paste these commands into your terminal...let us know how you make out...DAMIEN

DONT forget to reboot computer after you have finished doing these in order to implement the changes.

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl disable nmbd.service

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl disable ModemManager.service

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl mask plymouth-quit-wait.service
And do you really need TOR at boot-up???...If not, try this one as well.

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl disable tor@default.service
To undo anything in this list, wherever you see the word disable, just change that word to enable.

On the one code that says mask, just change the word to unmask.

Then of course, reboot like you did before to undo the changes if necessary.

Cinnamon seems to start at the same speed though, but that's what I expected. Thar tor@default.service is also still there. However, I'm marking it as solved.
Hardware problems on LMDE? Solution:
sudo apt-get install -t buster-backports linux-image-amd64 firmware-linux firmware-misc-nonfree

To use a version of LMDE after EOL, replace mint's Firefox with debian's one

Re: [SOLVED] nmbd.service slows down boot

Post by DAMIEN1307 »

Thanks! Now the plymouth boot screen seems to be slightly faster
Your going to want to disable the one below as well since it is also related to the nmbd.service from samba as well...DAMIEN

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl disable smbd.service
dont forget to reboot...lol.
