LDME 4 stuck on boot

Post by antWhite222 »

Hello, I need some help with my linux mint machine. On my old laptop I have installed LMDE 4 for more than a year now and everything work smoothly until lately (compared to previous Windows 10 O.S.). Now it stucks in the booting right after the Mint logo presentation. The weird and also good think is I can ssh into it from my other machine and everything seems fine. However, on the mint machine is stuck showing a black screen, where I can write but no commands. I know my explanation is not the best, but could someone tell me what can I run through ssh so I could find and solve the problem?

The output from

Welcome to the forum, antWhite222.

Are you able to see the login screen? Or do you have the computer set to automatically log in so you normally go from seeing the Mint logo to the desktop?

Usually, when a black screen shows up, but the system seems to be running normally, the issue is related to the graphics drivers.

You have a system with dual graphics, Intel and Nvidia, and it appears you have the Nvidia driver installed. Both the Nvidia and Intel kernel drivers are showing as loaded.
Graphics:
Device-1: Intel HD Graphics 5500 vendor: ASUSTeK driver: i915 v: kernel bus ID: 00:02.0 chip ID: 8086:1616
Device-2: NVIDIA GK208M [GeForce 920M] vendor: ASUSTeK GK208BM driver: nvidia v: 450.66 bus ID: 04:00.0
chip ID: 10de:1299
Display: tty server: X.org 1.20.4 driver: modesetting unloaded: fbdev, nouveau, nvidia, vesa alternate: nv tty: 145x40
Message: Advanced graphics data unavailable in console. Try -G --display

However, I only see the Intel display driver loaded. The nvidia driver is unloaded. That may be why the screen is black. You probably have the system set up to use the Nvidia driver as the primary one for display.

Do you have any Timeshift snapshots of when the system was working? Reverting to a snapshot would probably be the easiest way to get things working again.

If you might have any ideas of why the Nvidia driver did not load, then you might have an idea of what to check through ssh. Also, you may be able to just boot the laptop in Recovery Mode to get to the desktop without having to use ssh.
