LMDE 5 - Loading initial ramdisk...

Post by JAD30 »

I have upgraded LMDE 4 to LMDE 5 using the upgrade tool and blog instructions.
The upgrade installation appeared to go well and it completed without any errors upon reboot it got stuck going no further then:

Loading Linux 5.10.0-15-amd64...
Loading initial ramdisk...

First time around I left it for around 30 minutes but it didn't budge, before trying again a number of times.

System spec below.

Dell XPS 15 (9550)
UEFI - BIOS v1.14.0 (last version released for this model no further updates)
Intel Core i7 6700HQ (Skylake)
Intel HD Graphics 530 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M (2GB)
16GB Ram
SSD M.2 PICe 512GB
15 inch 4k Touch Display.

Just to check there was nothing wrong with running LMDE 5 on my system, I decided to make a USB LMDE 5 (from the downloadable ISO mirror.) this boots fine without any problems.

How do I fix the above problem?

I'd suggest installing plymouth-themes from either synaptic or terminal.
Reboot and see
