mintstick extremly slow

Post by ost »

I use LMDE 3.0 and mintstick always worked in normal manner, but now (i cannot say if this might be concerned to any update) writing an 1,5 GB ISO to an USB-Stick lasts about 8 hours.

Thanks in advance for any advice
Oliver

Change the stick then the USB port.

I does not depend on the Stick or the port. i have testet it with two sticks and before it worked with both sticks and the identical port. Must be a side-effect with any software-intallation or update.

An easy way also provides feedback:

Code: Select all

sudo dd bs=4M status=progress oflag=sync if=/path/to/file.iso of=/dev/sdX
Make sure you have the correct X for sdX!

Thanks, I will check this today...

Some additionally information: I bootet with a LIVE-OS (Zorin 15) and tried to write the ISO-File to another USB-Stick with etcher (beacause mintstick isn't installed by default). This worked with the normal duration. So it MUST have something to with LMDE. Using etcher or mintstick in LMDE does not make any difference in slowness.

Hello Flemur,
with this terminalcommand, the process is as fast as usual, using mintstick or etcher remains slow.

Just to add to this older forum entry...I, too, have begun noticing very slow USB write speeds in LMDE3 when attempting to dd iso images. Most ISO images end at transfer speeds under 1MB/s. It doesn't matter what brand or what size USB I use, or which USB port I use.

I can't exactly tell when the problem began (I haven't installed any new software, but have kept up-to-date with updates)...I had never had any problems, just showed up all of a sudden. I can dual boot into a different OS, and everything works fine in the other OS.

Odd.
