[SOLVED] Tidal website doesn't load interface

Post by Demmers »

I've been using LMDE5 for the last week after installing it to replace standard Mint 20.3.
On Mint 20.3 I was able to use the website https://listen.tidal.com/ in any browser. But now, using any browser (Brave, Firefox and Epiphany), the website begins to load, but no interface appears, just a blank black page! I've turned off the privacy block features, and checked my nextDNS firewall for any blocks... no difference. Opens in other devices. The main site https://tidal.com/ works absolutely fine. As far as I can tell, it's like something is missing from Ubuntu that made it work?!
I've looked in the page elements, but don't see anything obvious, other than the trackers in the background being blocked. The site is https secure, no authentication issues.
I use Tidal as my hifi source, so if anyone can crack this, that would be amazing! Would love to know also what others experience.

It works on LMDE5 with DDGPrivacyEssentials + UBlock Origin in Firefox.
At least it's asking me to register and accept their cookie settings [with no option to refuse them].

Still doesn't work for me using that setup. To be clear, i'm referring to https://listen.tidal.com/ The homepage https://tidal.com/ works just fine, until I use the link to the web player, then it just fades to black. Note i've just added the URL's in my original post.

So it appears i'm not the only user with this https://www.reddit.com/r/TIdaL/comments ... t_a_black/

Amazingly still can't tell on whose end the issue lies!

So I figured it out! Nothing to do with LMDE, as the issue ended up replicating on different devices on the home network. So I put my phone in hotspot mode and connected my computer to that. Then the site worked. So I knew it had to do with the NextDNS firewall set up on the router. There were about 5/6 trackers being blocked every time the site was trying to open. firebaseinstallations.googleapis.com was the culprit! Added to the Allow list, now works fine. Weird how this started around the time I started using LMDE, with no issues on Mint 20.3 beforehand, but there you go!

firebaseinstallations.googleapis.com is blocked by uBlock Origin.

Presumably the blame lies at Google's door.
