Hello Fred,
I just read your post viewtopic.php?f=241&t=227270#p1199722 . I assume, the problems with deb-multimedia which you mentioned are still the same in LMDE3. I am also looking forward to your updated tutorial how to remove it. Furthermore it seems a good idea to me to report the issue to Clem and to propose to not include this repo in LMDE. Thanks a lot for your help!

Re: LMDE3 - Install Complete MATE Desktop
Quick (related) question: I too just installed the new LMDE3 Cinnamon but would prefer the MATE due to my old system limitations. Would all of these tweaks and updates to change an LMDE3 into MATE be the same or better or worse than just installing LMDE2 MATE and doing every update to bring it up to speed on par with a new LMDE3 install?
Love love LOVE the Mint project...please keep it going!!!!
Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

Re: LMDE3 - Install Complete MATE Desktop
@ scottydog That is a tough question.
I think you would probably be better with Mate on top of LMDE3
as a "died in the wool" Mate fan, neither are my true "favourite" Mate version, and features... but both are OK
neither version would be a real "lightweight" but LMDE3 is more compatible with modern Debian software.
you Can install one alongside the other and see what performs better on your machine...and which you prefer.
depends on your preferences. I encourage trying both.

I used the instructions given on mate-desktop.org and they worked for me. Mate is my favourite desktop environment

Re: LMDE3 - Install Complete MATE Desktop
Thanks for posting this. Going to have to try it out... I'll of course report back how things went. Kinda sorry to see a default LMDE without a MATE version..... though if all else fails, I suppose I can live with Cinnamon.
