Backport issue / or how else to install newer handbrake version?

Hi,

The version of Handbrake in LMDE 3 is older than what I'd want.
How do I go about installing a newer version of handbrake by using synaptics? It's still old.
I'm trying to follow this documentation but not sure if it's too old / incorrect since it's for Debian:

I added these after I typed sudo apt edit-sources

As is clear from the errors, you have duplicate repos configured in /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list. You didn't share those with us; only half. With above command you can share your complete list of configured repos.

That said, Handbrake isn't in Stretch backports so this was pointless action: https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw ... -backports.

Handbrake version 1.2.0—which is the current version—is available on LMDE 3 through Sofware Manager, as a flatpak. Synaptic (no s at the end, that is a touchpad driver) doesn't know about flatpaks hence it doesn't show you version 1.2.0.

If you want Handbrake 1.2.0 on LMDE 3 you have two options:
- compile from source
- install the flatpak through Software Manager

- removing everything but the last line from the file /etc/apt/sources.list
- that is, leave the line deb http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch-backports main contrib non-free but delete the rest
