[SOLVED]unable to apply advance xscreenserver templates

Post by falciloid » Tue Feb 19, 2019 11:40 am

Hello there. A point of my problem: same time ago I install package "cinnamon-screensaver-x-plugin", what allow to use screensavers from xscreensaver in cinnamon properties menu. Next, one day incoming updates request to delete this package to install. Now if I try install this package again towards synaptic it cause removing packages: "blueman,cinnamon,cinnamon-core,cinnamon-dbg,cinnamon-screensaver,mint-meta-cinnamon".
It looks like a kind of bug of dependencies, but I wanna to fix it.
SW and HW data:
OS=LMDE 3 Cindy 64bit;
kernel=4.9.0-8-amd64,4.19.12-handmake;
laptop= "Asus K50IJ";
CPU= "Core 2 Duo T8300 2.40GHz";
RAM= 4Gb;

Hello, falciloid.

As I understand, the xscreensaver integration for the cinnamon-screensaver has been removed from the most recent Cinnamon versions 4.0.x.
At least, in the announcement of Linux Mint 19.1 (Ubuntu based), the removal of xscreensaver from Cinnamon had been announced as an improvement.
Mint 19.1 Cinnamon - What's new wrote:Support for XScreensaver hacks and webkit themes was removed from the Cinnamon screensaver.
As Mint 19.1 and LMDE 3 share the same Cinnamon version, I strongly suspect that the cinnamon-screensaver-x-plugin is now obsolete on LMDE 3 as well.

Best regards,
Karl

Thanks for attention for my issue, karlchen, but I wanna know - are exist any another method to use xscreensaver hacks in cinnamon settings but by use those package "cinnamon-screensaver-x-plugin"?
So, if isn't it's so sad that this feature will be cutted out cuz many users include me like this feature...
BTW, thanks for your job and have a nice day :)

Hello, falciloid.

For Mint 19.1 Cinnamon, forum user smurphos posted a tutorial on how to replace cinnamon-screensaver by xscreensaver: Cinnamon 19.1 - Install xscreensaver.
I assume that the same or very similar steps will work on LMDE 3 Cinnamon as well. Yet, no warranty given.

Best regards,
Karl

Hm. I posted precisely 2 links. Clicking either of them will open the linked webpage correctly here. No idea why any of the 2 links might not work for you. Sorry.
