Just installed LMDE4 + Mate.
The file system appears to lack the option to "open as root" or "open as admin" in the right-click menu.
It was there in LMDE1+2 (Mate) and 3 (Cinnamon).
It's not just not active, but the option is missing alltogether.
Folder Properties show the owner to be root and inform me that I am not the owner. Again there is no option to change this.
I log in automatically into my LMDE session (no password required) - as I did with previous LMDE-versions.
Am I cursed ?

Re: "Open as root" option missing ??
Don't do that, better use 'admin://' instead.
ALT+F2 then type i.e. 'xed admin:///etc/default/grub'
P.S.
I dont know if nemo ever had that option, I only remember that from nautilus.

Don't do what ?
Is there or is there not supposed to be an option to open files as root/admin in LMDE4, as there was in the past ?

Re: "Open as root" option missing ??
Even the instructions "Edit or Open Ubuntu Files and Folders as root Administrative" in this link https://www.how2shout.com/linux/open-ub ... root-user/ don't work in that the menu option "edit as administrator" is not created ?

Re: "Open as root" option missing ??
In Cinnamon on LMDE4 I can open a folder as root from nemo which triggers a new instance of nemo in a new window, not an individual file. However, once the elevated session of nemo is open, any file can then be opened with the same rights from that window.

Regaarding files:
The context to 'Edit as Administrator' is a function of Pluma which was the default
text editor in older MATE.
This has now been replaced with xed which does not include that.
If you install pluma your MATE will regain that context item.

@antikythera: same for me in Cinnamon (before I installed Mate)
@all41: I already had Pluma installed. Now I uninstalled xed, which made Pluma the only text editor. No difference. Context item unfortunately still not there.

Do you have
caja-gksu
installed? Look in Synaptic. If not, install it.Re: "Open as root" option missing ??
@Sydney
The file you need to add is
That will allow files and folders to open as administrator from right-click context menu.
