Thunderbird Update: Caution / RESOLVED

I applied the regular maintenance for LMDE/4 this week.
That included an update for Thunderbird.

Bad: after the update I could not access e/mail from my private ( napfn.com ) service, T-Bird just sat there, "checking email service".

I had to TIMESPACE the system back to Monday and get the T-Bird profile from a backup machine.

I don't know what's going on: this is just my experience.

End.

I still have one machine out of service. I'll try this fix on it.

The suggested 'fix' says to temporarily set encryption to none. That then allows connection to email server (incoming and outgoing) alright. But then what? Setting the security back to SSL/TLS again disables connections. Is it the case that the security has to remain 'none' to use the latest Thunderbird version?
