WebbCam -- any suggestions ? RESOLVED.

Post by mike acker »

I've ordered an adapter for HDMI to USB which is recommended for WebCam

I see we have a "Say Cheese" package in the repos; I'll try that first

any suggestions on this little project ??

thanks !!

I bought a little "MavisLink" adapter: HDMI input; USB(2) output.

So this can connect a DSLR HDMI output to LMDE4

Next of course is what to do with the input.

I found this "Cheese" program in the repos. Cheese will record the signal from the adapter, BUT: it has a serious defect: the Preferences/Settings dialog does not display. So, it records in 800x600 mode, distorting the video badly.

I don't know if it's possible to edit the preferences data using test editor on this or not; we'll see.

Maybe this doesn't matter. If I just want to record video I can do that in camera. Later I'll try a zoom conference, just to see what happens.

If anyone knows how to fix the "Cheese" program -- let us know !!

Update: use Webcamoid

I switched to Webcamoid this morning. This seems to have all the options one might want with respect to recording a video.

I appears I can configure the audio separate from the camera; if so I can use my Shure/SM58 mic and get a much better audio track.

If all this works It should work with ( e.g. ) a Zoom conference.
