Issue with switching from wine 5.0.2 to 6.9

Post by Guid00B »

I've been using wine 5.0.2 for a while, but for some experimentation, I need to update to more recent release (wine 6.9)
So from information on wineHQ DL guide for debian, I need to change the additional repository.
So first I uninstalled wine 5.0.2, then removed previous repository (dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/debian/ stretch main), then added the new repository (dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/debian/ buster main).
The problem begins when I try to install wine 6.9 : Using synaptic I get a broken package warning, and it can't be fixed for 'held package' reason. I tried to troubleshoot following the packages, but no good so far. Plus I don't really like to mess up with package manually. So I got back to previous and installed back the stretch repo and wine 5.0.2.
I suspect I didn't perform correctly the additional package modification. So I'd appreciate any advise, information or link to documentation that could help.

Did you perhaps simply forgot to do an 'apt update' after you've added the wine repo?

I used the gui and it pops up an update suggestion that I confirmed. So I guess it does update. But nevertheless I did it once again using a terminal, with no more success.
Plus I suppose that should this step be forgotten, synaptic wouldn't list the wine package corresponding to the 6.9 release but only the package from the official LMDE repos.
I think that somehow I made something that lead to this 'broken package' issue. So at the moment I am digging in the knowledge base to better understand this type of problem, how to resolve it, and better how to avoid it... TBC...

Try here to get it to install the lastest Wine, which works good by the way.

Did you install libfaudio0 first?

I think if you look in the instructions, it come from the; http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... _10/amd64/ repo. I followed the instruction and all was well, their was no dependency hell, the issue i was having before I followed this guide

In fact, I have run into other issues on my system, but it isn't wine related. So I first need to perform some maintenance and I'll wait for a period when I can have my desktop not running for a few days...
I'll be back.
