Telegram doesn't send SMS activation code to flip phone

Post by kurtking »

Now in x64 LMDE5 Cinnamon:

1. Telegram desktop loaded from repos w/ s/w manager
2. Entered mobile number (US 4G flip phone)
3. Clicked "NEXT"
4. Waited and nothing happened for 5+ minutes.

The Telegram desktop should have appeared. My ID (kurtking1) I had used for about 2 y on LMDE3 or 4 and then I had computer problems (m/b), rebuilt machine & OS and haven't been able to pass this point since.

LMDE default repo version is ancient.
You could try your luck with the updated one from bullseye-backports
sudo apt install -t bullseye-backports telegram-desktop
Best: get Flatpak (or official tar.xz)

I activate new devices (Telegram on desktop!) by scanning the QR code appearing on Telegram desktop with my phone Telegram app (Settings --> Devices)...

Don't use the flatpak verison... You can also try it from the 'testing' repo. Mine auto updates itself and will send the activation code in seconds. Good luck.
