Cannot select or paste with mouse after changing battery

Post by Ottavio » Fri Jul 19, 2019 2:29 pm

Hi,

I'm using LMDE 3 CIndy.

Since yesterday I've lost the functionality of selecting, copying and pasting with my mouse. I mean I can select text, copy and paste using the dialogue, but not automatically by just selecting with left click and pasting with middle click. The wheel works fine when scrolling up and down.

The only things that changed since yesterday are:

1) The old battery died and I put in a fresh new battery (it's a wireless Logitech M185)
2) I uninstalled and reinstalled Liferea.

If I type this in a terminal:

Code: Select all

xev | grep button
I get output when I left or right click or move the wheel up and down, but nothing if I just press the wheel button.

I wonder if it is a hardware or a software problem.

I remember this happened 6 months ago and I was able to sort it but I don't remember what I did.

I rebooted the system but nothing changed.

Thanks

To determine if something is HW or software related, you can do this - see if the problem persists for all that you can posible test:
  1. Put your mouse/keyboard to another computer.
  2. Replace mouse/keyboard.
  3. Boot your computer using a Live-CD (no HW change at all). Any distro should do.
If you find your own solution to this, please share :)
So I got this bright idea. But when I tried to grab the light bulb, I did not hurt my hands as expected from a warm bulb, because it turned out to be one of those LED bulbs.

I tried a wired mouse and it does paste with the middle button, so I guess it's a hardware fault with the wireless mouse.
