MrEen wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 3:48 pm Okay, I forgot you're on a debian based system. No alsa-base there since Jessie.

Try this; I can't remember if we've done this, but install (if necessary) and run PulseAudio Volume Control and on the Playback tab make sure Chrome isn't muted and has decent volume.

Okay i will try this tomorrow.

Thanks for the quick replies man!

So ...

1. installed PulseAudio Volume Control
2. started a music video on Youtube
3. checked that the tab in Chrome isn't muted
4. checked in PulseAudio: it says volume in Chromium is 100% but i can't hear any music.[/list]

Also when i try to play/test the system sounds in Pulse i don't hear anything ...

Okay. Just to be certain, try click on the little speaker thingy in case it's muted.

Also on that Playback tab, the System Sounds have enough volume, correct?

I checked. Nothing is muted and all is at maximum volume level, including the system sounds.
But ... still no sound ...

Do we still have sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/* devoid of a root entry?

I'd really like to see this output if it'll work for you now:

Code: Select all

curl https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/raw/master/src/utils/pa-info?inline=false | bash | nc termbin.com 9999
Your Debian based system is a bit different than what I'm used to so also try this in the terminal one line at a time entering you password if it asks after the first line:

Code: Select all

su
apt update
apt install --reinstall alsa-utils
alsa force-reload
exit
Then test the sound.

Also, let's see if I spot anything suspicious with this: ls -la ~/.config/autostart

Okay, I just went through the entire thread, and unless I missed it, I can't believe I didn't suggest this already:

In the terminal run alsamixer and arrow over to the Headphone column, then press the up arrow key until it's at full volume and test your sound. Does that help? This is for listening via the internal speakers by the way.

So when i run

Code: Select all

alsamixer
i see one sound bar named Master.

When i press F6 i can choose a Sound Card and it gives me 3 options:

1. - (default)
2. HDA Intel
3. enter device name

When i choose option 1. - (default) it show just 1 master volume bar and it's at 100%.

When i choose option 2. HDA Intel - it shows me the chip is a Realtek ALC660-VD and every bar is at 100% except for the mic which is at 44%.

I ran pulseaudio -k and saw the input line adapting to what was playing in Youtube in Chrome so i detects sound but ... doesn't let me hear it ...

Well, that's very odd that the headphone showed 100%. When you ran the curl command, it showed it was at 0%:

Code: Select all

Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
  Capabilities: pvolume pswitch
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Playback 0 - 64
  Mono:
  Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [-64.00dB] [off]
  Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [-64.00dB] [off]
Go back in, and on the Headphone column press the m key to unmute it. Muted columns show MM at the bottom.

Something really strange is happening. Now we're not getting the alsa half of the output, even though we did on your previous attempt. This gives us the alsa half:

Code: Select all

bash alsa-info.sh
If that fails, use this again:

Code: Select all

wget http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh -O alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh

Yup. Still showing the same:

I'm really starting to think that root thing is somehow causing your issues. I just don't have any experience with Debian based systems to be sure of where to look.

When you run these commands, you see $ in front of where you type, not #, correct? Scratch that, I can see for myself above.
