Random popping sound, common fix didn't work for me

Hi, I've had this issue when I play music or watch anything on YouTube, at the very exact moment I press play/pause button, I get weird cracking or popping sound. It also happens sometimes randomly when the music is playing. I heard that it is a common issue and has a quick fix by disabling the sleep/power save function of sound drivers, but it didn't work for me. I'm using LMDE 4 64 bit on Dell Latitude 7490 i7-8650U. Maybe those 39 (flatpak), 8 (snap) things have messed you up?

I don't think so. I mean, I didn't try the fix when I first installed the OS but I don't think they have to do anything with sound.

Have you tried a live boot from a USB stick?

I haven't tried playing music using a live USB but I don't think it would be accurate example for your system until you install it and update it. Right now I have too much apps installed to do the clean install even if it does resolve the issue.

First step: disable PulseEffects and see if the issue remains.

Next idea, open /etc/pulse/default.pa as root for editing and change this section:

Yes, I disabled autostarting of PulseEffects and rebooted my PC and I still get pops.

Try upgrading your firmware-intel-sound from buster-backports and I'd also recommend to get the latest 5.10 kernel from there (linux-image-amd64)

How can I do that? I was looking on the internet how to upgrade the kernel but I was confused. And how to upgrade the firmware-intel-sound?

I managed to update the kernel and headers but I still get those pops.

I thought I had seen that you had set this, but now I don't see it, so let's give it a try:

sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf <<<'options snd-hda-intel power_save=0'
Run that in the terminal then reboot and see if the pops, other than at startup and shutdown, are gone.

I've just tried that and I still get pops when playing or pausing a song and sometimes randomly during audio playback. By the way, I've got TLP installed and this is my configuration file:

Please disable TLP for one boot. At least that could indicate where the issue is coming from. The settings look good, but I only have a desktop, so I'm just guessing.

I tried disabling TLP and rebooting my laptop but the pops persist.

The only other ideas I have at present is to unplug any USB you can and test the sound. Also try with WiFi turned off. I've seen these interfere with sound before, so it's worth checking.
