Driver for NVIDIA G86M [GeForce 8600M GS]

Post by Hanisch »

Hello,
on my old Notebook I have the NVIDIA G86M [GeForce 8600M GS] on Board.
But

Code: Select all

$ nvidia-detect
Detected NVIDIA GPUs:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G86M [GeForce 8600M GS] [10de:0425] (rev a1)

Checking card: NVIDIA Corporation G86M [GeForce 8600M GS] (rev a1)
Your card is only supported by the 340 legacy drivers series, which is only available up to buster.
The actuell Version of LMDE 5 is Elsie (Debian 11).

What can I do for using an NVIDIA-Driver?
With nouveau XFCE works not good.

with regards
Ch. Hanisch

To show essential details of your PC setup: Plug in all relevant dongles, accessories, and peripherals. Then

Open a Terminal (ctrl-alt-T), then copy-and-paste the following line into the Terminal window, then tap Enter...

Code: Select all

C=code];echo "[$C`inxi -Fxxxpmrz;mokutil --sb-state;lsusb;lspci;(lsmod;dmesg)|egrep -i "nvidia|nouveau"`[/$C"|xed -
After several seconds, xed text editor pops open, showing PC technical data that's useful to analyze your situation.

Copy-and-paste everything from xed into a Reply here. <The [code] tags have already been inserted for you.>

The LMDE 5 is impossible to run on my old Notebook MEDION MD 96380 because the system freezes after few minutes.
I must go back to LMDE 4.
Here works NVIDIA well.

I think the Driver nouveau or newer kernel works not well in LMDE 5.
